This hidden gem is only 1.5 hours away, go this weekend!

When the urge to escape the city hits you, Rowena’s Inn is the answer!  The weekend before mothers day we were exhausted and in desperate need of some rest and relaxation.  While Justin took a nap, I got my Google on!

Our criteria for a quick weekend getaway was the following:

  • No crossing borders
  • No driving more than 2 hours
  • No rental home
  • Hiking nearby and lots of trees

We considered Harrison Resort but it was fully booked. Unaware of other hotels in Harrison I Googled, “Boutique Hotels in Harrison”, the 6th result was, “Rowena’s Inn on the River – Pretty Estate Resort“.  The big White House and gorgeous pool took my breath away!  What is this place? Why haven’t I ever heard of it? Please tell me there’s availability!

Lilian: Be Cool. Justin: Okay.

We booked the only room available which was a two bedroom suite called The Gatehouse. We invited Justin’s parents to join us for the retreat. When we arrived, the front desk agent informed us that there was a wedding on the property in a tent nearby. For this reason we would have the whole property to ourselves, it was music to our ears!  She also confirmed that we were staying in the Gatehouse, which turned out to be it’s own house at the entrance of the property. It had a carport, full kitchen, two bedrooms, dining area, two ensuite bathrooms (clawfoot tub and stand up shower), fireplace and back porch.

A peaceful stream that passes through the golf course.

When we showed up to our 6:30PM dinner reservation at The Clubhouse restaurant it was more peaceful than we ever would’ve imagined. One family was dining near the fireplace.  All the other guests were in a nearby tent at the wedding so we had private dining on a new level.  When I sat down I looked over at the other family and saw a beautiful women with a funky short hairstyle. I recognized her instantly and pointed her out to Justin, Psst! That’s Betty Anne she’s the youngest member of the Pretty family.  I wanted to tell her how much we admired her families commitment to their land and her husbands astounding efforts to expand the property while preserving the original aesthetic.  Our silly shyness and appetite for their delicious food kept me from speaking up but when we returned I made sure to write a letter to the property.  I hope you go and if you do, tell us all about it.
